Day-2 field support

Keep field work connected to operational intent

Production handover starts a new stream of physical work: component changes, capacity additions, investigations and refresh activity. O-Connect provides a field execution layer around the environment's approved procedures and ownership, helping operations turn a work request into a controlled activity with a clear completion record and updated infrastructure documentation.

The brief

Practical support inside the operating model

Effective field support starts with the live environment's boundaries. The work request, equipment identity, access arrangements and change authority must be clear before an activity begins. O-Connect coordinates these inputs with the operational owner, using the available deployment records and agreed instructions to establish what is required and how completion will be checked.

The service connects smart hands, break/fix coordination and planned infrastructure changes to a consistent record of execution. Activities can involve separate operations teams or hardware vendors, so responsibilities and follow-up actions are captured explicitly. After the work, asset and connection records are updated where affected, preserving the information the next support request will depend on.

Scope & deliverables

What the work covers.

Scoped smart hands

Carry out agreed physical support activities under the operational owner's instructions, with access, asset identity, approval and completion checks established for the specific work request.

Break/fix coordination

Coordinate the field portion of an agreed repair activity with operations and relevant vendors, recording work performed, observed outcomes and any follow-up needed from other owners.

Adds, moves and changes

Execute approved equipment and connection changes within the planned window, reconciling the completed work against the request and updating the physical records affected by the activity.

Lifecycle refresh support

Support the field work required by an agreed refresh plan, coordinating installation and removal dependencies with operations while keeping equipment identity and handover responsibilities traceable.

Delivery approach

A clear path through the work.

  1. Qualify the work request

Confirm the target assets, required activity, operational owner, access conditions and approved instructions, then agree scheduling, completion evidence and dependencies before committing the field work.

  2. Execute within the change plan

Perform the authorised activity with the relevant operations or vendor contacts, recording observations and referring unexpected conditions through the agreed decision path before further work proceeds.

  3. Close the operational loop

Review the completion checks, update affected records and hand back the work outcome with open actions clearly assigned to the people responsible for the next decision.

Every field activity leaves a clearer record

Operations receives a documented account of the authorised work, its completion position and any remaining action. Asset and connection changes stay visible, helping the environment remain supportable as equipment is added, replaced or moved and preserving continuity between the original deployment and subsequent field activity.

Define your acceptance criteria
Planning questions

Before the work begins.

How are support availability and response expectations agreed?

Availability, scheduling and response expectations are defined during scoping for the relevant site and type of work. The agreement should identify request channels, access dependencies and escalation contacts so operational teams understand the field support arrangements before relying on them.

Can field support work alongside our existing operations team?

Yes. The service can provide the physical execution layer within an existing operating model. Your nominated owner retains the agreed decision and approval responsibilities, while O-Connect coordinates the scoped activity, completion evidence and any required interaction with other technical teams.

What information is needed for a planned change?

A useful request identifies the site, target assets, intended work, approved instructions and change window, together with the operational contact and completion criteria. Existing rack and cable records help the team reconcile the requested activity with the live environment.
